Those of you that play TTRPGs may have heard that Critical Role has been involved in creating and play testing a Gothic horror RPG, Candela Obscura. There was a certain amount of excitement among those interested in horror RPGs or even those simply looking for something different from D&D or other fantasy RPGs. Well, the core rule book was finally released. Unfortunately, as this review explains, the mechanics of the game are horribly and irredeemably broken, noting that there are no mechanics to allow NPCs to attack or do much of anything. The game appears to have gone too heavily toward "collaborative story telling" rather than roleplaying.
Dang, sounded like fun.
ReplyDeleteGuess we will have to stick with Chaosium's "Call of Cthulhu" game.
