I wonder what could have happened to make black teens more murderous and white teens more suicidal? The article in question is "Gun-related deaths and suicides among American children soar to all-time high: Homicides have DOUBLED in the past decade as suicides rose 11%." It is based on information from a mostly unusable (probably intentionally so) CDC database. According to the article:
Gun related deaths accounted for a staggering 19 percent of childhood deaths in 2021, more than car accidents and cancer.
There were 2,279 firearm homicides of children and teens aged one to 18 in 2021 - double the number registered a decade prior, when there were 979. There were more child and teen gun deaths in 2021 than in any year since 1999.
Black children and teens were found to be most likely to be killed by a firearm. According to the data, they were six times more likely to die by firearm homicide than white children.
While 17 in 100,000 black children died by a firearm in 2021, about three in 100,000 white children and 1 in 100,000 Asian children were killed by a gun.
After black children and teens, American Indian or Alaska natives were most likely to die by firearm.
As many as 1,300 have been killed by a gun so far this year, as reported by CNN.
The number of young children who attempted suicide surged during the pandemic, with many turning to their parent's medicine cabinet,, as previously reported by DailyMail.com.
The CDC reported earlier this year that the number of suicide attempts by poisoning among US kids increased 30 percent from 2019 to 2021.
Commonly used drugs included easily accessible over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol, Advil and Benadryl. Anti-depressants such as Zoloft and Prozac were also used often.
If you look at the graph accompanying the article, you will see that the homicide rate spiked in 2005 or 2006, then declined through 2014, then started climbing again before shooting up sharply in 2020. Suicides, which had been declining through 2007, started climbing as soon as Obama took office.
So what happened in 2014 to cause a spike? Well, the Ferguson riots occurred and that is when we started seeing policing start to really pull back in the face of accusations of racism. In fact, it even has a name--the Ferguson effect--and its own Wikipedia page. Freddie Grey's death followed in 2015. Of course, in 2020, we had the combination of George Floyd dying of an overdose while in police custody with millions of young people locked away in their homes and bored out of their minds.
I suspect the solution to this may be similar to that of getting the elites to react to the immigration problem: bussing these violent youth from the inner city to the quiet suburbs of Washington D.C., the Hamptons, Martha's Vineyard, etc., so the elites can experience diversity up close and personal.
Of course, when considering these violent teens, one has to wonder what God would do? Who am I kidding? We don't have to wonder: 2 Kings 2:23-25.
The kids are *not* alright.
