Media Brownout On Jersey City Shooting

Normally, when there is a shooting event like happened at the JC Kosher Supermarket in Jersey City yesterday, the media will be quick about providing details about the suspects and, especially, if they used an evil "assault rifle." In this case, however, the media and/or officials were very slow to release the names of the shooters, which turned out to be Francine Graham, 50, and David Anderson, 47.

      Even slower were photographs of the shooters. I still have not found photographs of Graham, but this afternoon I saw the first photographs of Anderson. Given that police had already revealed that Anderson had been a former Black Hebrew Israelite (African-Americans who believe that they are the true descendants of the ancient Israelites, and have been associated with Black supremacy and antisemitism), it was pretty clear that the perpetrators were Black, and that is what the photographs of Anderson show.

    More interesting are the reports, or lack thereof, concerning the weapons used. So far, the only description I've seen (outside a Daily Mail report that just said "assault rifle"), the only description of the perpetrators weapons was that they were "long rifles." I don't think they meant one of these:

In any event, Anderson had prior arrests for firearms related charges, so this is just another example of how ineffective are gun control laws. This article from NBC 4 New York has some surveillance video showing the gunman and gunwoman first attack the Jewish market, but I wasn't able to identify the weapons. Perhaps you can do better. (This appears to be from the same video).

    It was also unusual that the media has pretty much downplayed the fact that the police found a couple black-powder pipe bombs in the U-Haul that the couple had stolen. Although Anderson had apparently posted antisemitic comments on social media, officials have been begrudging about whether or not they consider it a "hate crime" and, so far, no one has raised the "T" word (terrorism). But police have said that the couple targeted the Kosher deli.

    According to the Daily Mail, one man was able to escape the deli, but "Leah Mindel Ferencz, 33, Moshe Hirsch Deutsch, 24, and Miguel Douglas, 49, were all shot dead before police arrived." Frencz and Deutsch were Jewish. Detective Joseph Seals was shot dead when he confronted the pair near a cemetery before the events at the deli. Seals was investigating the December 7 murder of Uber driver Michael Rumberger who was found stuffed in the trunk of his town car; Anderson and Graham were suspects in that killing.
