No Red Flag Laws For Gang Members

I can remember when the idea of the Left using armed criminal gangs against law abiding citizens was a conspiracy theory. But Democrats in the House Judiciary Committee have killed a proposed amendment to their "Red Flag" law that would have allowed police to use the law to seize weapons from gang members listed in law enforcement gang databases.

Most gun violence in the United States is due to gang violence, but the Democrats seem strangely unwilling to address gang violence. It isn't too hard to guess why. The article cited above notes that "[a]ccording to a report from Breitbart's Jeremy Segal, Mexican drug cartels are 'allowed' to run Chicago's streets and young African-American men are killing each other as a result." In fact, the gangs and organized crime have long been important to Democrats even on the national stage:
For example, it seems absolutely undeniable that the Chicago Syndicate helped steal the 1960 election for Kennedy, using their control over the election machinery of that extremely corrupt city to carry the Illinois’s crucial 27 electoral votes and place JFK in the White House instead of his opponent Vice President Richard Nixon.
This isn't some relic from the past. In 2011, Chicago Magazine ran an exposé that reported that "[i]n some parts of Chicago, violent street gangs and pols quietly trade money and favors for mutual gain. The thugs flourish, the elected officials thrive—and you lose." The Democrats, I believe, just don't dare apply Red Flag laws against some of their most important constituents.
