- "Schumer blasts 'red flag' gun legislation as 'ineffective cop out'"--The Hill. He's pushing for universal background checks (i.e., no more private transfers and what would amount to a de facto gun registration). Some of what Trump has said suggests that he may well support such legislation.
- "The Second Amendment solution to gun violence"--CNN. Jeff Yang proposes that "[a]nyone purchasing a gun should be required to enlist for military reserve service, spanning the entire period of their gun ownership."
- "Dayton shooting shows six good guys with guns are no match for a high-capacity magazine"--Think Progress. The author of this piece wants to impose nationwide magazine-size restrictions reasoning "[i]f [the Dayton shooter had] only had 30-round magazines, he’d have had to reload at least once by then. If he’d had 10- or 15-round magazines, he’d have had to execute that maneuver three, four, potentially five times." And, therefore, he wouldn't have been able to shoot as many people before the police killed him.

The Left's Proposed "Solutions" After The Recent Shootings
I have to say that the reactions have been somewhat more muted than I would have thought. I suspect that the Dayton shooter, with his close ties to the favored politicians and ideologies of the Left, may have taken some of the wind from their sails. Anyway, here is the roundup:
If you start looking for a common characteristic of these mass shooters, there is one characteristic nobody seems to want to talk about - these shooters are all lefties that support leftist policies and Democrat politicians. Maybe the "solution" to gun violence is to prohibit Democrats from possessing firearms.
ReplyDeleteDemocrats may be self selecting to not own guns. Yesterday, Instapundit had linked to an article from Reason Magazine, "Tighter Gun Laws Will Leave Libertarians Better-Armed Than Everybody Else," (https://reason.com/2017/11/14/tighter-gun-laws-will-leave-libertarians/) in which the author pointed out that compliance with gun control laws have always been low in the United States, and that conservatives were unlikely to comply, and that it almost assured that libertarians would not comply. So, if gun restrictions were to get more strict, it would pretty much only be Democrats and moderates that would obey the laws.
