Firearms/Self-Defense/Prepping:

• "Setting the Record Straight on Milley’s Congressional Testimony"--The Firearms Blog. Nathaniel F. notes that some reports appear to have misinterpreted Milley's congressional testimony as stating that there is a new weapon system designed to penetrate body armor; Nathaniel explains that Milley only discussed a new projectile.
• Related: "Hard Plates… How to Wear Them With Kit Badger"--The Firearms Blog. Some comments on wearing body armor and an embedded video. Basically, though, they need to cover whatever is protected by your rib-cage since they, essentially, augment the protection provided by your ribs.
• "Glow Sights"--Midwest Reloading Bench. The author re-furbished some old sights with glow-in-the-dark paint. He just used some hobbyist paint, but there is probably better paint around. 
• "An Introduction to Reloading (Part 1)"--The Alaska Life. This article discusses the basic equipment (beyond a Lee Loader) needed to get started in hand-loading your own ammunition, as well as some tips on case preparation. 
• "A Start-Up Guide to Reloading"--The Western Hunter. This article discusses the additional (and more expensive) equipment you will need for precision loading. 
• "Protecting yourself against ticks: What you need to know before heading outdoors"--Fox 8 Cleveland. This is actually a fairly detailed article on ticks, tick borne diseases, and some tips on removing ticks (and it indicates that if you do remove a tick, to save it in case it is needed for later analysis).
• "NASA Spots Five Asteroids That Will Be Flying Awfully Close to Earth Starting in July"--Houston Press. Normally I would not post this in the prepping portion of my page except that one of the asteroids will be passing within 36,000 miles of Earth on October 12.

• "Feminist researcher invents ‘intersectional quantum physics’ to fight ‘oppression’ of Newton"--The College Fix. Apparently physics, and quantum physics in particular, is to harsh to "marginalized" people. As might be expected, the "researcher" is a professor of women's and gender studies and, therefore, is offended by reality.
• "Did India hide its first cases of Zika virus?"--BBC. Yesterday I had noted a report of India reporting three cases of Zika. This article, however, suggests that India may have tried to hide or delay those reports, and may have many more undiagnosed or unreported cases.
• To dissolve the people and elect another: "Why Democrats import violence"--Don Surber. He opines:

       The Democratic Party plan since the 1970s has been to eliminate the middle class. The middle class is the bedrock of America, and when you want to fundamentally transform a nation into a fascist state, you attack the middle class.

       And that starts with their values -- God, family and community. What Democrats have done to the big cities, they now -- finally -- have figured out how to do to suburbia. Thanks to refugees, Democrats can import gang violence into Long Island.

• Hmm. "Mystery as two North Koreans are found dead in the same Moscow hotel after BOTH suffering 'acute heart failure' as two more are rushed to hospital"--Daily Mail. Two North Koreans staying in a dormitory for guest workers have died due to what the Russians are saying is heart failure; two more North Koreans in the same dormitory have fallen ill with an unknown fever, and have been hospitalized. Five other non-Russians at the dormitory are also believed to be ill, although they had not been hospitalized according to the article. A North Korean official has reportedly removed an unknown number of other North Korean guest workers from the hostel. The dormitory provides housing to foreign construction workers residing in Moscow.
• It's time for another Church Commission: "Was Obama administration illegal spying worse than Watergate?"--Glenn Reynolds at USA Today. A review of how the Obama administration spied on Americans generally, and leaked information to the media in order to harm political opponents. The real question for all of us:

It now seems apparent that we overestimated the patriotism and professionalism of the people in these agencies, who allowed them to be politically weaponized by the Obama administration. That being true, if we value democracy, can we permit them to exist in their current form?
