Early Winter for New York

A storm stronger than Sandy slamming Alaskan islands this weekend will bring an unwelcome early start to winter in New York, forecasters warn.
The storm, which began as a tropical typhoon named Nuri on the Japanese coast, was mixing with cold air and the jet stream Friday as it arrived on Alaska’s Aleutian Islands.
By next Thursday the fallout should send temperatures in New York plummeting 15 degrees lower than normal.
“The force of the storm is comparable to any great hurricane,” said Bob Oravec, of the National Weather Service.

Of course, it is not just New York. The storm will cause colder temperatures and storms across much of the Northeast and Midwest.
Flurries are expected today in Maine, Wisconsin, Vermont, New Hampshire, upstate New York and even parts of Pennsylvania, with more to follow in the days ahead.
Temperatures are set to plummet in the coming days, with temperatures below freezing across much of the north-eastern U.S. by Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
There will also be snow in Idaho, Montana, Colorado, and the Dakotas.
