September 4, 2018 -- A Quick Run Around the Web

"Jiu-Jitsu standing rear choke defenses."-- The Basics Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Leesburg, Virginia (7 min.)
After posting the video from Active Self Protection showing a victim being choked out by a mugger, I looked around to find a video showing effective ways to defend yourself. There is a lot of bad information out there. This video actually begins by demonstrating a couple of poor techniques, then offers up three defenses for different types of situations. I personally like the second one best because it is easy and works well even if the attacker has his second arm locked around your head. The problem is that it would not probably have not worked for the victim in our ASP video because he was on stairs. In that case, the throw would have been indicated.

I’m very humbled to announce that THE JOURNAL OF POLICING AND CRIMINAL PSYCHOLOGYhas completed its rigorous independent peer review of a research study measuring the efficacy of the neural-based training methods we’ve developed over the last 31 years of research and experimentation.
The paper establishes a brand new field of academic and scientific inquiry:  the fusion of accelerated expertise concurrent with stress inoculation.  It establishes us as pioneers in this new field and validates our training protocols in the laboratory.  We’ve already validated our results on the street and on the battlefield for over 31 years.
He lists a couple case studies in his announcement. Also, you may want to look at his article, "NEURAL-BASED TRAINING FOR SITUATIONAL AWARENESS" and "ON MENTAL TRAINING AND PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT PT 7, OR DECONSTRUCTING JERRY MICULEK." Wynne is also a novelist. I've read a couple of his books and am currently working on a third, and would recommend his work.
      • Once a month, Jon Low publishes a list of articles and other items that he thinks would be of interest or use for those interested in the defensive arts. Check out this month's when you have some time to read and browse
      • Synchronicity at work: "How a Black-Powder Revolver Saved My Life"--Matthew Allen at Shooting Illustrated. My oldest son was recently expressing an interest in blackpowder revolvers. That was just after I had found and posted Paul Harrell's video on using blackpowder revolvers for self-defense. And then, this past weekend, I came across this account. By the way, Allen is the author of the Straight Forward In A Crooked World blog, which, among other things, contains a series of articles on what Allen terms dark arts for good guys. I've linked to these before, but if you haven't read them, you should; he covers various useful skills such as using bribery in a third world country, tips on escaping a third world country, driving skills, obtaining and carrying a knife in a non-permissive environment, etc.
      • "What are Run and Gun Competitions?"--Recoil Magazine. The gun channels I generally watch on You Tube will occasionally discuss or demonstrate the use of a weapon in a "run and gun." These are generally competitions that require the shooter to engage in some aerobic physical activities, sprinting or even longer distance running, between sets of shooting. I've even seen some where the shooters had to carry weights a certain distance (I guess to simulate having to carry a wounded comrade or heavy equipment) between sets of shooting.
      • Greg Ellifritz has recently recounted a bit about his attendance of a class teaching methods of using a blackjack and sap, which made me curious about those weapons. Here are a few articles I found giving some background on these and similar weapons:
The efficiency of the riot gun for short-range anti-personnel work relies on the effectiveness of 00 buckshot. Eight or nine double aught pellets are a terrible harrow at close range. Buckshot is effective to about 20 yards, with 15 yards the ideal range. Buckshot can be dangerous far past this range. When you address the combat load, it is good to remember that the effect of a large number of shot, striking the adversary instantly, is what makes the shotgun effective.
Military testing has proven, the shotgun has a higher hit probability than any other shoulder-fired weapon including fully automatic military assault rifles—versus civilian AR-15 rifles that are actually sporting guns. ... When the shotgun is considered an all around, go anywhere, do anything firearm for personal defense, the true riot gun with an 18-inch barrel and bead front sight is simple to use and easily taught.
          • "Killing A Myth"--Marine Corps Association & Foundation. The myth being that certain large caliber weapons, including .50 BMG, or prohibited from anti-personnel use by international laws or conventions.
"The Extreme MALE Brain vs SoyBoys and BUGMEN"--Black Pigeon Speaks (9-1/2 min.)
Black Pigeon discusses recent research demonstrating that the brains of autistic children show exaggerated traits that are characteristic of male brains--even in females with autism. Moreover, research suggests a link between autism and higher levels of testosterone in the mother's body during pregnancy. This is especially interesting given the article listed immediately below...

According to a study from 2012, 83 percent of US women who are on the pill are taking a version that contains progestins made from male hormones. This includes the popular brands Ortho Tri-Cyclen, Loestrin FE 1/20 and Tri-Sprintec®, among many others.
The male hormone that these pills use is a close relative of testosterone called nandrolone. A potent androgen (a hormone that influences the development of the male reproductive system), it can lead to the development of typically male characteristics.
By the way, this research also demonstrates that sex or gender is not a social construct.
The word used in the press to describe what had been going on was pedophilia, which is a misnomer deliberately employed to cover up what journalists then considered and still consider now an inconvenient aspect of the truth.
As a report commissioned by the National Review Board of the American Catholic bishops and issued in 2004 revealed, something like 81 percent of the victims were boys, and very few were, in the strictest sense, children. They were nearly all what we euphemistically call young adults. They were male adolescents on the younger side — at the age when boys as they mature can briefly be downright pretty.
What was involved was what its advocates call man-boy love: a sexual relationship between a grown man who serves as a mentor and a boy who is under his care or simply admires or stands in awe of him. The ancient Greeks, who practiced this systematically in the classical period, called this phenomenon pederasty[.]
The distinction is important because the problem in the Catholic Church is broader than a few priests praying on children, but is a homosexual sub-culture that appears to have conspired to protect itself and its members.
                          Also this:
Since his election, Pope Francis has done everything within his power to soften and subvert the church’s teaching concerning human sexuality. He put the Lavender Mafia in charge of the two Synods on the Family held in 2014 and 2015. They tried to push through their agenda; and, when the assembled bishops balked, they got a tongue-lashing from the pope, and he inserted in the final report without comment two paragraphs that had not received the requisite two-thirds vote.
All of this — including the machinations of the St. Gallen Group and the role Daneels played — is laid out in detail by an English Catholic, who was in Rome during the early year of this papacy, and who writes under the pseudonym Marcantonio Colonna. The title is “The Dictator Pope: The Inside Story of the Francis Papacy.”
In the last few weeks, we have received further evidence of the power of the prelate-pederasts. A grand jury convened in Pennsylvania has revealed that Donald Wuerl, while bishop of Pittsburgh, covered up a priest-run child-porn ring and a host of other abuse cases involving something on the order of 100 priests, using the age-old trick of pay-offs and non-disclosure agreements. This did not stop him from being named archbishop of Washington DC and of being made a cardinal — which is to say, a Prince of the Church.
He was not even high on the list of possible nominees submitted by the Papal Nuncio. Someone powerful in the Vatican wanted him promoted, and Pope Francis responded to the news of his guilt not by ordering an investigation into Wuerl’s promotion, but with a dodge — by attributing collective guilt to us all.
                                  • "Night of the Demon"--Richard Fernandez at PJ Media. Writing on the scandal in the Catholic Church:
Auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles Robert Barron has a theory.  He suggests that the Church -- and perhaps the world at large -- is struggling not just against a few disorganized human beings but something more powerful: an evolving, self-programming, viral "demonic element" that is almost impossible to destroy.  When Barron says the devil he means just that:

When I was going through school, the devil was presented to us as a myth, a literary device, a symbolic manner of signaling the presence of evil in the world. I will admit to internalizing this view and largely losing my sense of the devil as a real spiritual person. What shook my agnosticism in regard to the evil one was the clerical sex abuse scandal of the nineties and the early aughts. I say this because that awful crisis just seemed too thought-through, too well-coordinated, to be simply the result of chance or wicked human choice.
Fernandez dismisses the threat of real malign supernatural powers, and instead takes the tack that what we are seeing is the spread of certain types of memes: "Memes are information objects that are in some sense alive, able to morph and become sufficiently viral to take over a host and produce copies of itself from its resources.  Just as melodies can reproduce so can perversion." I've seen other articles, including from priests within the Catholic Church, however, that have suggested demons or possession as a possible explanation for what has happened.
Sure, the rule of law is terrific in concept, and it would sure be nice to give it another whirl here in America, but we aren’t blind or stupid. We see what the “law” is and how it’s applied – there’s one law for the elite (that’s the one that never gets applied) and one for us Normals that’s designed to keep us in line with our mouths shut.
                                            Also:
Favored groups like Illegal aliens get to flaunt our laws too. After all, Democrats want to replace us ornery Normals with more obedient voters, and the GOP squish caucus wants to help the Chamber of Commerce maintain an endless stream of submissive serfs to toil for the donor companies it represents. If a few more Americans die because we selectively enforce the law, eh, so what? How is a “sanctuary city” consistent with the rule of law? It’s not, and they don’t even pretend it is. And what happened to the Wall Street bankers and hedge fund guys who wrecked our savings in 2008? Oh, right – instead of jail time, they got a trillion of our dollars. When establishment hacks talk about the “rule of law,” they mean that they should be able to use the law to rule you while they get to ignore the law when it’s inconvenient.
                                                And:
Our refusal to recognize the law as legitimate anymore is the real danger for the establishment. Because where there are no rules, there is only power. And at the end of the day, the militant, Second Amendment-loving mass of Normal Americans has a lot more real power than them.
"As Africa's population doubles, a lot of them, whatever the circumstances, will be coming to Europe, as economic migrants or as refugees, they will be coming, many of them," ONE co-founder Jamie Drummond told the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade and Defence last year. "And that is a good thing."
                                                    • A look back: "The Wall Street Bombing: Low-Tech Terrorism in Prohibition-Era New York"--Slate. On September 16, 1920, a wagon loaded down with dynamite detonated in front of the New York Stock Exchange, killing the horse and 38 people, and injuring hundreds of others. Although the crime was never solved, police believed it to be the work of Irish anarchists, although many believed that the bombing was the work of communists (the "Red Scare" was just beginning in the wake of the communist victory in the Russian civil war).
                                                    • A reminder that we live in the 21st Century: "MICROWAVE WEAPONS MAY HAVE BEEN USED AGAINST U.S. EMBASSY OFFICIALS IN HAVANA"--Daily Caller. The part that struck me from the article, however, was this: "A secretive organization of top scientists that helps the federal government access threats, referred to as 'Jason,' is considering several possible explanations — one of them being microwaves."
                                                    • Related: "Archival Material of Cabal – The Eugene Wavelength"--Anonymous Conservative. He notes an incident from 1978, when civil authorities where concerned that powerful radio signals were causing a range of health problems to residents of Eugene, Oregon. "Some researchers have blamed such signals for disorders ranging from cancer and cataracts to headaches and insomnia."
