I have a couple Safariland holsters, but they are just open top concealment holsters.Docenthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13573255956484552163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2195077991229481958.post-72340444409347326062018-01-15T11:13:40.155-07:002018-01-15T11:13:40.155-07:00Here in Texas, the law changed last year to allow ...Here in Texas, the law changed last year to allow licensed open carry, with a provision for property owners to post signage forbidding open carry. Since that time, I have only observed two people exercising open carry. Both of these and the photos published on news sites match the accompanying photo to this article: poorly chosen and inexpertly worn gear, displayed in a very overt manner. It reminds me of the old time cops seen with floppy leather holsters allowing the weapon to hang out almost horizontal, the butt waving in the wind. Nothing about these gratuitous displays engenders respect or confidence in the abilities of the wearers, which in itself is a message of vulnerability to a criminal predator. In Colorado, I’ve seen several people wearing serious handguns competently in proper holsters, perhaps reflecting their decision to go armed during meaningful outdoor recreation, rather than making a political “statement”. I strongly agree that while I personally make the decision to carry my handgun in a concealed and low profile manner, I believe open carry should be allowed. Persons who choose open carry should take due care to select sturdy, protective holsters, ideally utilizing a functional retention system. It is not a question of cost, as I’ve purchased Safariland ALS “carry” (not “duty”) holsters for three of my handguns (Glock 20, Glock 19 and Beretta PX4) for less than $40 each on sale thru the Safariland website. I bought them just in case I did decide to open carry. Carrying a handgun is a responsibility that should be taken seriously, not as a frivolous whim.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
