Most of you reading this blog have probably already seen the meme, posted below, which I came across at Western Rifle Shooters Association about Britain's descent into a liberal dystopia as they desperately try to maintain control of the narrative.
There is a certain truth to this meme: that perhaps the citizens of the UK wouldn't find themselves in their current position if they had stronger gun rights. And perhaps that is why we see comments to the effect that American having guns is useless when it comes to protecting freedoms. Most obvious were those during the Biden Administration that no U.S. state or organization could prevail against the elites because they lacked nuclear weapons. But many others suggest that when it comes down to it, Americans will not actually revolt; and some suggest that having all these weapons is useless because gun owners don't have the training and organization to be effective. The goal seems to dishearten gun owners and persuade them into believing they are helpless.
But the fact of the matter is that even if those comments were mostly true, there is still a level of uncertainty. Americans have revolted before: everything from small skirmishes in small towns to rebellions of coal miners and WWI veterans, to larger rebellions and threats of rebellions of whole states. Brash politicians like AOC never think of the consequences, so the risk of something blowing up never crosses their minds. But more thoughtful or devious politicians live in fear that someday they may miscalculate and push things just a bit too far or too fast and the peasants will revolt. I do not believe it to be a coincidence that Canada has suddenly and dramatically expanded the list of banned firearms just as several of its western provinces discuss possibly splitting from Canada. And I believe it is this fear that prompted the elites to make an example of the J6 protestors.
The fact that we, in the U.S., can still meme while the British increasingly cannot is, to me, evidence that there is something acting as a brake on the elites. Something more than the written Constitution which, as Covid demonstrated, can easily be relegated to a trash can if the elites so desire. Something having more to do with fear of revolt than the politicians' "principles" and support for freedom. After all, if Antifa and BLM can cow governments, imagine what an angry populace could accomplish.

Lol. Never underestimate the efficacy of memes from an armed and largely unregistered populace.
ReplyDeleteFor example, it probably helps that we have so many memes circulating reminding the elites that the Revolution ultimately got kicked off when Britain tried to seize weapons.
The British have essentially been an unarmed People since before WW2 at least. There was a campaign in 1940 during the days of weakness after Dunkirk where the American gun-owning public was asked to donate extra civilian firearms to the cause of equipping the nearly defenseless Brits. How many and what type of arms actually made it there and what use they were against the Germans is immaterial, the point is that British civilians had no widespread possession of private arms and seemed to be in need of them, while the Americans civilians maintained a known surplus of arms.
ReplyDeleteThis is still the case today, the Brits have been strong advocates for American civil disarmament for decades, often passing along these sentiments to us Yanks in public discourse with sanctimonious advise about what our Constitution actually says. The disarmament efforts in Britain have progressed to the banning of kitchen knives for the natives while the imports merrily go about with machete type chopping implements with impunity. Time grows short for our Euroweenie brothers. The head choppers are straining at the bit to decapitate them en mass, and we here in America watch with interest as they make feeble last minute gestures of street protest against their sell out government and king. There is no doubt it will come to a head in Britain first. When that is settled we can talk again about the unsolicited civil disarmament advise they have been giving us all these years.
They'll end up taking them off of the moslems.
