The Conviction of Trump And What It Means

As you all know, former President Trump was found guilty yesterday of 34 criminal charges of falsifying business records. From a procedural point of view, the next step in the process is that Judge Juan Merchan--what a solidly American name--will hold a sentencing hearing on July 11, just days before the Republican convention. It seems that most experts are predicting that Trump will receive probation and/or fines, but he could in theory be given consecutive sentences adding up to 136 years. But the Secret Service has already been in discussions with prison authorities about coordinating the President's security should he be imprisoned.

Those suggesting that Trump will face no prison time note that Trump has no prior convictions and that New York sentencing guidelines advise no prison time for someone with no prior convictions where the felonies were non-violent. But the Dems really want to see Trump behind bars, so I would not be surprised it he doesn't get to spend at least some time there. But I suspect that ruinous fines will be imposed by the Judge.

Trump will appeal, of course, and given all the shenanigans by the prosecutor and court, even the New York Court of Appeals might have to rule in his favor and order a new trial. But at that point it might not matter, because the Democrats hope to have destroyed his reputation with the electorate. But the impact may not be as much as they hope--The Daily Mail reports:

A new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist Poll of registered voters found 67 percent said it would not make a difference to their vote if Trump was found guilty in the hush money case.

15 percent said a guilty verdict would make them more likely to vote for him while 17 percent said it would make them less likely to vote for him come November.

Among Independent and Republican voters, a guilty verdict in the case was actually more likely than less likely to make them vote for Trump.

And then there are the political implications. John Lucas writes that yesterday was "The Most Dangerous Day for Our Country in Our Lifetimes." He explains that this is because the court decision has set the country on the course for a downward spiral where "[t]he Democrats have made the rules, and their opponents will have little choice but to play the game."

This is not a game that can or will be played by one side only. The rules are now set. When Republicans have the chance, they will play the game. Many, perhaps most, will think that a response is mandatory and that “taking the high road” is no longer an option. Instead, it would be regarded by the “progressive” left — that is to say those now in charge of the Democratic party — as weakness if they roll over and fail to respond. This is an existential threat to the stability of our political system and nation. That risk makes this the most dangerous day in the history of the Country, at least in our lifetimes.

Henceforth, weaponization of the justice system against a political opponent will be the norm. Political grudges will be resolved by political opponents in cherry-picked courtrooms where conviction is most likely. All this confirms that when controlled by scoundrels, our judicial system is becoming more like what we expect in places like China, Cuba or Venezuela, where political opponents are routinely imprisoned or worse.

Regardless of what you think of former President Trump – and I have criticized him sharply in the past both privately and in public – you, too, should fear for our Country.

Where do we go from here beyond a never-ending fight where the latest victors attempt to bankrupt and imprison their adversaries? Solving that problem has just become exponentially more difficult.

While I would like to think that the Republican party would respond in kind when it has the chance, it never has and never will. The Republican leadership knows that the power they are allowed is a consequence of playing along to get along; and they will not risk losing that power in order to play hardball. Moreover, the Democrats control the bureaucracy (or perhaps it is the other way around). So, no, we can expect little to nothing on a national level or from the federal government.

Nor would the situation change if Trump were elected. First, I want to be clear that I don't think the powers-that-be will allow Trump to be elected. What will happen this year to steal the election will make 2020 look amateurish in comparison. The only reason that Trump might be elected is to take the fall for the coming depression.

But, even should Trump were to actually win the election and be sworn in as president again, the bureaucracy would immediately turn on him and resist carrying out anything he ordered. It would be worse than in his first term.

It is unlikely that the states will play hardball, either. The Democrats feel secure that they control enough of the judiciary and prosecutors--especially in the larger and wealthier cities and states--such that the Republicans will not be able to respond in kind; and if they did, the Democrat controlled media would skewer them alive. Otherwise, we would have already seen state and local prosecutors pursuing Biden for his numerous cases of fraud, bribery, sexual abuse of his daughter, and more.

The primary problem Trump has always faced is that his strength has mostly been as a popular leader, which is anathema to the leaders on both the Left and the Right. That is, Trump's election in 2016 was the functional equivalent of a peasant uprising--something that all elites will unite against even if they otherwise hate each other. It is true that the reforms of the 1920s and '30s were the result of widespread labor unrest and outright armed conflict, combined with the threat of the “Bonus Expeditionary Forces” that marched on Washington D.C. in 1932. But the government surveillance would make a repeat of any of this near impossible. Just look at what's been done to the J6 protestors and organizers here in the U.S., and the truck protestors in Canada. On top of that, the Left will release their own goons to threaten and terrorize conservatives in the more populace states.

No, permanent change will only happen when the elites begin to turn on each other.

Diversity Is A Strength: Pakistani Cab Driver Attempts To Murder Jews

The Daily Mail reports that "[a] taxi driver attempted to mow down a group of students and a rabbi outside a Jewish school in Brooklyn in an alleged attempt to 'kill all the Jews'."

Asghar Ali, 58, a Pakistani immigrant with a reported history of mental illness, faces dozens of charges, including for attempted murder, after the attack outside the school in Canarsie on Wednesday, The New York Post reported.

Surveillance camera footage shows a cab driver, later identified by police as Ali, reviving his engine as he drives up onto the sidewalk near the Mesivta Nachlas Yakov School building.

He then chases a group of young men in an apparent attempt to run them over.

The group, who sought safety inside the school building, alleged that as he chased them down, Ali yelled: 'I'm going to kill all the Jews.'

George Washington warned us about this in his farewell speech, but we didn't listen.

The Fall Of The West: Punishing Foreigners Differently

I saw the following article: "Gypsy, 20, who raped 12-year-old girl and left her pregnant with twins is acquitted by Spanish court because their 'relationship' is 'part of the cultural reality of their community'." Based on what is in the article, it seems that it was a case of statutory rape rather than forcible rape, but it is still a crime and for good reason. This is not a singular occurrence; I've seen other stories ever since the immigrant invasion of Europe where criminals are let off or given lighter sentences because they were just acting according to their culture and/or didn't understand Western norms. Which is just another way of saying that the migrants are animals that can't be held to the same standards as a civilized human being. But if they can't live up to the same standards, that would imply that neither are they suited to live among civilized human beings.

It also reminds me of the following quote from Charles James Napier responding to a Hindu priest complaining about the British colonial prohibition of Sati religious funeral practice of burning widows alive on their husbands' funeral pyres:

Be it so. This burning of widows is your custom; prepare the funeral pile. But my nation has also a custom. When men burn women alive we hang them, and confiscate all their property. My carpenters shall therefore erect gibbets on which to hang all concerned when the widow is consumed. Let us all act according to national customs.

Napier was a strong and confident Westerner. The Spanish judge was weak and didn't care to defend the law or the Western values on which they are based.

Ayoob: "The Misunderstood Concept Of Disparity Of Force"

An article from Massad Ayoob at Backwoods Home Magazine. He explains:

In the laws of deadly force there is something called Disparity of Force. It means that while one’s attacker may be ostensibly unarmed, his ability to kill or cripple an innocent victim with pounding fists, stomping feet, and strangling hands is so great that it becomes the equivalent of a per se lethal weapon, and warrants the innocent victim to respond with a weapon such as a firearm in lawful self-defense.

And unfortunately, according to Ayoob, it appears that many criminal defense attorney's do not understand the principle, as Ayoob delves into the low acquittal rates for women who used a firearm to defend themselves against an abusive husband or boyfriend. (Of course, since women are just as likely as men to have initiated the violence, perhaps many of the cases didn't actually present valid instances of self-defense; or perhaps they failed in establishing other elements of self-defense; or maybe Hollywood movies showing emaciated 90-lb. women effortlessly beating up muscular 200-lb. men has influenced the attitudes of jurors on whether a woman needs to resort to lethal force to protect herself).

Where this principle comes into play is the "proportionality" element of a self-defense claim. As one source relates: "The level of force used in self-defense should be proportionate to the threat faced. The individual should not use excessive force that goes beyond what is necessary to repel the threat." Another law firm explains:

For the principle of proportionality in a self-defense claim to be the person making the claim must have acted in a way that is deemed proportional to the threat let. A threat of non-deadly violence should not be met with a self-defense of deadly violence. For instance, it would not be acceptable to shoot or stab a potential attacker who clearly only intended to slap or push the person making the self-defense claim. That would not be viewed as a proportional reaction. However, shoving or slapping the aggressor away would be seen as proportional and a claim of self-defense could perhaps be used to avoid an assault charge.

An example that most should be familiar with is that of being punched in the nose would not (normally) allow you to respond by shooting the aggressor. But, as Steve Moses writing for CCW Safe warns:

When it comes to proportionality, concealed carriers in a fearful state of mind frequently end up in trouble with the law because of a combination of stress and inadequate training results in poor decision making. In addition, not possessing multiple defensive tools may encourage them to resort to the only tool available to them at the time, which often happens to be a firearm.

Which is why you often see recommendations from self-defense instructors to carry pepper spray in addition to a firearm.

What Ayoob concentrates on in his article are circumstances where physical disparities in size between an attacker and victim may give rise to situations where even if the attacker is ostensibly "unarmed" it would be permissible for the victim to employ a firearm or otherwise use lethal force in self-defense. Ayoob is discussing the difference in size and strength between a woman and a (presumably) much larger and stronger man as an example, but it could show up in other situations, such as a younger, stronger person attacking a frail, elderly person; a number of people ganging up on a single person; a trained boxer or similar beating up someone that is untrained or unexperienced; or someone attempting to curb-stomp the victim.

Because self-defense laws can vary by jurisdiction, you should probably consult a lawyer or expert in your area if you want to know more. And, as always, I'm not your attorney and this post is not legal advice.

Don't Feed The Animals!

The Daily Mail reports that a "Missing Texas woman's body is found inside the jaws of an alligator who was still eating her."

The victim's husband reported her missing early Tuesday morning after having last seen her when she left for a walk around 7.30pm Monday. She never returned home.

Her body was found in the alligator's jaws near Coastal Oak Drive, not far from her Brook Forest Drive home, KHOU-11 reported.

It is unclear at this time if the victim was killed by the alligator.

The Gun Paradox: U.S. Has 50% Of Guns But Nowhere Near Highest Gun Violence

An interesting video from Colin Noir explaining the gun paradox: why the United States has 50% of the civilian firearms in the world despite only representing 5% of the world population, but less gun violence and suicide rates than many other countries. And even what gun violence we have, he notes, is concentrated in high density urban areas controlled by Democrats.

I'm Shocked: Chinese Students Help Smuggle Drugs, Toxins To China

"University of Florida employee and students sent 'drugs and toxin that causes whooping cough to China in elaborate smuggling scam'," relates the Daily Mail. From the lede:

A University of Florida research employee and students have been implicated in an illegal, multi-million dollar scheme that saw samples of dangerous drugs and toxins illicitly shipped to China over a period of seven years.

The scheme, investigated by the Justice Department, saw thousands of biochemical samples bought illegally which were then delivered to a campus laboratory before being shipped overseas, according to federal court records.

Among the students tied to the scheme was the president of UF's Chinese Students and Scholars Association, Nongnong 'Leticia' Zheng.

The article also notes that, in a "she doth protest too much" incident, Zheng and her Chinese student group "openly protested a Florida law signed by Gov. Ron De Santis last year that limits universities from recruiting students and faculty from China — and bans employing such students from working in academic labs without special permission." Zheng, of course, demonstrates why such restrictions are needed.

It's Called Reparations

Black "Mississippi carjackers ambush Jackson family on their front lawn and open fire as they cower behind their Mazda with children inside" reports the Daily Mail. Fortunately the family threw the keys to a different car on the ground which the armed robbers took instead. This was probably the best outcome for the victims given the situation, but one has to wonder what would have happened if the family hadn't had another car to offer up instead. This is a type of situation where better awareness of surroundings and carrying a handgun is needed.

Silicon Valley Overrun With Garbage

As the saying goes, import the third world, become the third world. From the Daily Mail: "Silicon Valley is being turned into notorious dumping site as furious millionaire locals speak out about trash including tractor tires, porn DVDs and even dead GOATS." The article focuses on one particular town--San Martin--but also notes that "[i]n 2020, the California Department of Transportation reported spending over $100million on clean-ups." Victor Davis Hanson has written about this problem for years and blames it entirely on the influx of migrants, especially from Latin America, who (a) don't care about dumping garbage everywhere and anywhere and (b) are coddled by local and state agencies and so get away with behavior that would not be tolerated if done by white residents.

Shocking News: US To Remove Gaza Pier For Repairs

The Daily Mail reports that the "US will REMOVE Biden's $320million Gaza pier because it is 'sinking': Disaster for president's floating aid dock as its taken from beach for repairs after just two weeks." According to the article, only a bit more than 2,000 lbs of food aid had been delivered--in other words, enough to feed four adults for a year. That works out to $160,000 per pound, not including shipping and handling costs or the cost of the food, itself. Imagine how many American kids could have been fed with the money wasted on this debacle.

The dock is being towed to the Israeli port in Ashdod for repairs, which are expected to take at least two weeks.

Haiti: Long Pork Eaten By Short Pork

Some more news from Haiti. Per the British tabloid, The Sun: "World’s most dangerous city littered with bodies being ‘eaten by pigs’ as families can’t bury them in ravaged Haiti." An excerpt:

A horrific gang war has been raging in the capital, Port-au-Prince, for months with more than 2,500 people killed so far.

Now victims are being left to decay on the roads with some never seen again and others falling victim to the island's animals, the LA Times reports.

One thug army, led by warlord "Barbecue", has taken over the ravaged city in what could be the beginnings of a bloody coup.

Jimmy “Barbecue” Chérizier, leader of Haiti's most powerful gang alliance, has been ordering his cronies to "burn every house you find".

Officials believe 80 per cent of the city is now controlled by some six different violent gangs.

The UN is sending out a special police unit from Kenya to help quell the destruction and chaos on the Caribbean island.

Today a US politician, Republican Ben Baker, announced that his daughter and son-in-law had been killed in the ravaged city.

He said his daughter Natalie and her partner Davy were working as full-time missionaries.

Tranny Stabs 6 People In Stabbing Spree--Possibly Connected To Murder

The articles:

The Gateway Pundit reports that the suspect, Jared Ravizza, "goes by 'she' on Instagram." Gateway Pundit goes on to mention that "[a]ccording to an article published last year in PlayersBio, Jared Ravizza is a 'beautiful soul who continuously works for the betterment of his community.'" Libs of Tik Tok also notes that Ravizza was an Obama supporter and calls him a trans activist

The news articles indicate that the stabbing of the 4 girls in the movie theater was unprovoked.

CNN mentions that Ravizza was "arrested last month on suspicion of assaulting a family member, court records show." The Daily Mail also indicates that "[t]he suspect is allegedly linked to a murder investigation in Deep River, Connecticut, police say." In regard to the latter incident, CNN has a bit more detail:

Aside from the Massachusetts stabbings, Connecticut State Police said a suspect linked to a death in the town of Deep River had been taken into custody in Massachusetts. But police in neither state have confirmed whether the Connecticut case is connected to the stabbings in Massachusetts.

Connecticut State Police said they responded Saturday afternoon to a “disturbance” at an address in Deep River. There, police found a “deceased individual” whose identity has not been confirmed, Connecticut State Police said.

“A suspect in this investigation has been taken into custody in the State of Massachusetts and there is no active threat to the public,” Connecticut police said. Authorities did not name that suspect.

Bear Spray Success or Failure?

The New York Post reported this past week on a man who was attacked by a grizzly bear while hiking in the Teton National Forest.  According to the article, Shayne Patrick Burke, 35, was attacked while hiking up Signal Mountain in Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park. He had his bear spray and was making lots of noise--"breaking branches, singing and talking to myself aloud"--so he wouldn't surprise a bear, when he happened across a grizzly cub running up a hill approximately 50-70 yards from him.  The mother bear suddenly charged at Burke. "The combat veteran unholstered his bear spray and shouted at the bear," the article relates, "but the animal closed the gap and attacked." Burke apparently didn't have time to deploy his bear spray, but instead opted to play dead--laying on his belly with his hands (including the bear spray still clutched in one fist) on the back of his neck. The bear started mauling him. Fortunately for him, however, when the bear went for his neck, the bear bit down on the bear spray canister which exploded in her face, causing her to break off the attack and move away.

I tend to think of this as a failure for the bear spray, even though the bear ultimately left, because Burke hadn't been able to use the bear spray as it was intended, and although it ultimately worked, it was not due to a spray of the chemical, but the can exploding in the bear's mouth and face which dumped a lot more chemical on target than Burke would have been able to do.

And another bear attack: "Bear Mauls 15-Year-Old Boy as He Watches TV in Arizona: ‘Got Him on the Nose and the Cheek’"--People.

Video Short: Caching Fail

A long-time reader sent me the link to the video below. The producer of the video appears to be one of those YouTubers that does films of backcountry exploration. He came across a mineshaft while recording on BLM land in Utah. Taking a peak inside the shaft, he saw what he thought were body bags. He informed law enforcement and the local sheriff's office investigated. The sheriff's office subsequently reported that the bags did not contain bodies, but were a food cache.

At one time stashing stuff in an abandoned mine shaft, as done here, would have been sufficient for a remote cache. But with an increasing community of people that explore old mines and caves on public land, it has become more likely that someone will discover a simple cache like this.

There are also people that specifically hunt for survival caches in order to claim the items as their own. Even if they don't outright take the items, they can turn them in to the local sheriff as lost property and claim it as their own when the true owner fails to claim the property within the statutory time period.

Something else to consider is access. I went out to the BLM land south of town to go shooting this weekend and decided to visit a spot that I like for short range shooting--handguns and .22 rifles--and discovered that the area had been fenced off by a rancher, including fencing across the old road to get to the area (based on the condition of the fence posts and wire, this had apparently been done this spring--maybe within just the last few weeks). They are supposed to leave access open to the public, but the road is so little used and overgrown they probably figured they could get away with it or received permission to just run the fence across it.

MSB: "2-Way Radio Communication Etiquette and Protocols"

Etiquette and protocols are intended to make communications more clear and understandable. The Modern Survival Blog explains some of the primary etiquette and protocols for those new to using a 2-way radio or "walkie-talkie" as well as some other pointers for communicating more clearly and succinctly, and common phrases used as part of these protocols. He also includes the standard NATO alphabet should you need to spell out a word over the radio (which is also helpful for spelling something out over a phone).

Deep State: FBI Authorized To Use Deadly Force Against Trump & Secret Service

As you have probably already heard or read, it has come to light that the FBI had authorized the use of deadly force when executing its search warrant for Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence. Although the FBI is claiming that there was nothing unusual about this--that is, the authorization to use deadly force is standard operation procedure when executing a search warrant--and Attorney General Merrick Garland is criticizing Trump for even bringing it up, there is more to the story.

American Greatness reports that "[u]nder 'Contingencies,' agents were directed to 'be prepared to engage' with the former president and his Secret Service team should they arrive at Mar-a-Lago (MAL) during the raid." When considering all the facts of how the alleged documents wound up at Mar-a-Lago (see below), one is left wondering if the Biden Administration and/or Deep State was hoping that the FBI would kill Trump during the raid.

Related:

The new disclosures indicate the Department of Justice was in touch with the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) during much of 2021, undermining the DOJ’s claims that it became involved in the matter only after the Archives sent it a criminal referral on February 9, 2022, based on the findings of records with “classified markings” in 15 boxes of materials Trump gave to the Archives a month prior.

Investigative journalist Julie Kelly found something interesting in the documents that could change everything. The first things is testimony from an FBI agent who testified that the General Services Administration (GSA) had been in possession of Trump's boxes in Virginia before ordering Trump's team to come get them.

"So an entire pallet full of boxes that had been held by GSA somewhere outside of DC is dumped at Mar-a-Lago," Kelly notes. "Apparently these are the boxes that ended up containing papers with 'classified markings.'"

"I will double check indictment but I don't recall this event in the timeline," she added.

So, it appears that the Biden administration may have been responsible for shipping classified information to Trump's Mar-a-Lago home in Florida. This development is significant because Trump has previously blamed the GSA for packing the boxes that contained the classified documents, only to later accuse Trump of essentially stealing them and using that as pretext for sending the  FBI to raid his Mar-a-Lago home in August 2022.

"Trust the Science": Journals Closing Because Of Tsunami Of Fake Research

Legal Insurrection is running a news story today entitled "Fake Science Proves Problematic for Academic Publishing as Journals Close From Research Fraud." An excerpt:

Fake studies have flooded the publishers of top scientific journals, leading to thousands of retractions and millions of dollars in lost revenue. The biggest hit has come to Wiley, a 217-year-old publisher based in Hoboken, N.J., which Tuesday will announce that it is closing 19 journals, some of which were infected by large-scale research fraud.

In the past two years, Wiley has retracted more than 11,300 papers that appeared compromised, according to a spokesperson, and closed four journals. It isn’t alone: At least two other publishers have retracted hundreds of suspect papers each. Several others have pulled smaller clusters of bad papers.

Although this large-scale fraud represents a small percentage of submissions to journals, it threatens the legitimacy of the nearly $30 billion academic publishing industry and the credibility of science as a whole.

The discovery of nearly 900 fraudulent papers in 2022 at IOP Publishing, a physical sciences publisher, was a turning point for the nonprofit. “That really crystallized for us, everybody internally, everybody involved with the business,” said Kim Eggleton, head of peer review and research integrity at the publisher. “This is a real threat.”

The article notes, at least as to Wiley, that "[t]he journals are associated with Wiley’s Hindawi subsidiary, an Egypt-based house that published 250 journals and was acquired in 2021." It also blames AI for making it easier for the "paper mills" to fake research and game the peer-review system.

    The article also explains:

Paper mills use AI to produce fake publications, which are then sold to researchers.  Those researchers will pay between $1,000 and S$25,000 for the material. While the quality of the product is poor, it seems that the articles still manage to pass peer review.

Additionally, paper mills will pay publishers to accept their fake studies.

Unsurprisingly, "[t]he nation with the highest number of potential fakes was China, contributing to just over half the red flags. Russia, Turkey, Egypt, and India were also significant contributors."

RINOs: Snatching Defeat From The Jaws Of Victory

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose has warned that Biden is not going to be eligible to be on the Ohio ballot this fall because of how late the Democrat Party's convention is scheduled. As the New York Post explains:

Under [a 2010] Ohio law, a political party must certify the names of its presidential and vice presidential candidates at least 90 days before Election Day. This year, the 90-day mark is Aug. 7.

The Democratic convention, when Biden will officially become the party’s standard-bearer, will be held Aug. 19-22.

As a consequence, Biden could miss out on any opportunity to take the 17 electoral votes that Ohio brings with it.

But Biden needn't worry because the RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) are coming to the rescue. The Hill reports:

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) announced Thursday he would call the GOP-controlled state Legislature into a special session next week to discuss getting both President Biden and former President Trump on the state’s fall ballot.

This notwithstanding that several Democrat controlled states have tried to keep Trump off the ballot. Apparently what is good for the goose is not good for the gander, at least if the gander is a Democrat.

Moreover, the article mentions that the Republicans in the Ohio Senate proposed a bill to make a one-time change in the deadline to accommodate the Biden campaign, but Democrats rejected it because the bill also included a provision that would forbid foreign nationals from contributing money to ballot campaign initiatives in the state. In other words, Democrats had the chance to solve the issue, but (probably correctly) valued allowing rich billionaires from other countries to influence Ohio elections over getting Biden on the ballot.

Update: The Ohio legislature passed and the Ohio governor signed into law a bill allowing Biden to appear on the Ohio ballet, but also apparently got the restrictions on foreign donations to ballot campaign initiatives (not that it will stop such election interference).

The Intersectionality Of UCLA Medical School And DEI

From "'A Failed Medical School': How Racial Preferences, Supposedly Outlawed in California, Have Persisted at UCLA" (h/t Instapundit). The article begins by noting:

Long considered one of the best medical schools in the world, the University of California, Los Angeles's David Geffen School of Medicine receives as many as 14,000 applications a year. Of those, it accepted just 173 students in the 2023 admissions cycle, a record-low acceptance rate of 1.3 percent. The median matriculant took difficult science courses in college, earned a 3.8 GPA, and scored in the 88th percentile on the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT).

Sounds great. Except that for the last several years they have been making exceptions for minority students in order to increase the diversity of their student body and better represent underserved communities. So, now:

Within three years of  [the dean of admissions, Jennifer] Lucero's hiring in 2020, UCLA dropped from 6th to 18th place in U.S. News & World Report's rankings for medical research. And in some of the cohorts she admitted, more than 50 percent of students failed standardized tests on emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics.

Those tests, known as shelf exams, which are typically taken at the end of each clinical rotation, measure basic medical knowledge and play a pivotal role in residency applications. Though only 5 percent of students fail each test nationally, the rates are much higher at UCLA, having increased tenfold in some subjects since 2020, according to internal data obtained by the Free Beacon.

As one UCLA medical school official put it, "'All the normal criteria for getting into medical school only apply to people of certain races,' an admissions officer said. 'For other people, those criteria are completely disregarded.'"

Led by Lucero, who also serves as the vice chair for equity, diversity, and inclusion of UCLA's anesthesiology department, the admissions committee routinely gives black and Latino applicants a pass for subpar metrics, four people who served on it said, while whites and Asians need near perfect scores to even be considered.

The bar for underrepresented minorities is "as low as you could possibly imagine," one committee member told the Free Beacon. "It completely disregards grades and achievements."

Of course our liberal "Karen," Ms. Lucero, is not helping any of the people she supposedly wants to help. The medical students are being forced to repeat classes or rotations, can't pass tests necessary to obtain residencies, and some have probably have been forced to drop out. But at least UCLA got its money, and Lucero can feel better about herself, which is all that really matters.

A Brit's Article On A Preppers' Kit

From the Daily Mail: "Want to survive the apocalypse? From energy bars, gas masks and freeze dried food, doomsday 'prepper' reveals everything you'll need if the world ends as government unveils website advising Brits on how to get ready for an emergency." The article begins by noting that due to increasing threats of war, floods, prolonged power outages and cyber attacks, the UK Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden is advising the public to maintain a three day supply of food, water, some type of lighting, and other supplies so they don't need to leave their homes--essentially a 72-hour kit. "Whitehall sources insisted that the plan was not designed to create a nation of US-style survivalists"--after all, the purpose is to keep them from dying due to government incompetence in constructing and maintaining infrastructure, not relieve them of being dependent on the government.

"But Justin Jones, from UK Prepping Shop in London, believes the government has acted 'too late' and warned the threat of wars, cyber attacks and even solar flares meant it was important to take precautions." Thus, he provides a list of 10 items for a 72-hour kit (or a bit longer):

  1. First aid kit, because the hospitals may be closed or full up with people from a new pandemic.
  2. Water purification tablets (over storing bottled water--which might make sense in a wet climate as I understand Britain to have).
  3. Emergency food (Jones recommends canned foods for short term storage and freeze dried for extended periods).
  4. Energy bars (because they are easier to deal with if you are on the move than stopping to heat or cook something).
  5. Generator (to keep a freezer or refrigerator going).
  6. LED flashlight.
  7. Multiband radio (for news or announcements).
  8. Heavy wool blankets (for when the heating is off).
  9. Gas masks (for dealing with nuclear fallout or pollution thrown up by other big blasts).
  10. Bug out bag for the car.
It was interesting to me the number of comments to the article from readers (and the headline editor!) that can't seem to distinguish between more ordinary disasters like floods, extended power outages, terrorist attacks, or other short term disasters for which this type of kit is intended for, versus the "end of the world" scenarios presented by a total nuclear war or some civilizational killing disaster. True binary thinking in action.

I was also impressed by the number of people that said that they would rather die than be a survivor. I'm not shocked, though. Bruce D. Clayton, in his book Life After Doomsday, related going to meetings where people expressed the same sentiment about nuclear war, assuming that survival would just mean a prolonged death from radiation. Although I can't tell from the comments to the Daily Mail article whether those making those comments just believed they would die anyway, or if they just couldn't bear going on living without their smart phones and Tik Tok.

The Difference Between Open Bolt and Closed Bolt

The Mag Life discusses "Open-Bolt vs Closed-Bolt: What's the Difference?" as well as the pros and cons to each. If you don't know, the short answer is that in an open bolt system, the bolt is locked back and open at the moment of firing. Once the trigger is pulled, the bolt will release and move forward catching and feeding the cartridge into the chamber and firing, after which the bolt (either by recoil or gas) is forced to return to the rear position. These were at one time popular for automatic weapons like machine guns and submachine guns because they were simple designs and cheap to build.

The closed bolt system fires from a bolt that is closed and locked in some manner (e.g., bolt lugs) at the moment of firing. The trigger releases a striker or hammer that strikes a firing pin, setting off the cartridge, and then whether by recoil or gas, the bolt is forced to open and cycle a new cartridge before closing and locking again.

As I said, there are advantages and disadvantages to each system depending on your application. But certain open bolt designs are prohibited because they are too easily converted to full auto and, therefore, considered automatic weapons by the ATF. The article discusses this. The video below also discusses open bolt systems and the legality of such weapons.

MSB: You Need At Least 1-Year Of Food Storage

The Modern Survival blog, in its article "You’re Going To Need At Least One Year Of Food For SHTF," contends that you will need a 1-year supply of food and other supplies for an actual TEOTWAWKI event and provides some advice on how to get started. The author states:

This article is not going to tell you how to do it. Rather, you might browse my Survival Food & Kitchen and Prepping categories for thoughts and recommendations. But what I will tell you is that you are likely going to need at least a one-year supply of food for a chance at survival when it all comes crashing down, so to speak. I would prefer that it doesn’t, but I’m not so sure about that.

The downside is that it will take space: "Space is required. On one hand, you won’t need a warehouse, but on the other hand, it’s not all going to fit in a closet."

The article doesn't actually explain why a 1-year supply versus a shorter period like 6-months or a longer period like 2-years. The basic reasoning is to have enough food on hand to get through a loss of entire crop cycle, planting to harvest and processing, with the presumption that food production will be able to start after that, even if just in local farms and gardens. Some people suggest additional food storage (2 or even 3 years) on the presumption that, if you are not an experience gardener, you probably lose your first one or two crops.

In addition to your food storage, you should also have seeds and a place and means of growing them for when the food shortages hit. For those in apartments or a house with a small yard, you probably should look at techniques like vertical gardening and perhaps starting some form of community gardening.

The Deep State Wants To Ratchet Up War Against Russia (Updated)

Breitbart reports: "Intel Lawmakers Urge Biden to Allow Ukraine to Strike Russia with U.S.-Provided Weapons." The House Intelligence Committee, which are lapdogs to the 3-letter agencies, want the Administration to authorize Ukraine to strike at targets within Russia's borders with U.S. provided weapons, as well as train more Ukrainian F-16 pilots.

The End of Western Europe

Back in March of this year I posted a review of the science fiction novel, Fitzpatrick's War by Theodore Judson that postulated a future where Europe had fallen under the control of a new Caliphate and Christians there were mostly extinct other than some portions of Eastern Europe. The British Isles as also been captured to the Caliphate, but had been reconquered and settled by the Christian Yukon Federation in North America.

There may not be a specific Caliphate attempting to conquer Europe, but the Islamization of Europe is a done deal according to Baron Bodissey at The Gates of Vienna blog. In his article, "Not Quite the Götterdämmerung I Expected", the Baron recounts that he and others have been working to warn Europeans about the Islamization, but their efforts have largely been in vain. Thinking back over his efforts, he writes:

The worst part of the recollection process is the growing awareness that all my efforts at Counterjihad have for naught. It’s been coming on gradually, and has intensified over the past few years, as the incidence of jihad in Europe has increased to the point where I can’t cover it all. It used to be that I could post about every major incident when it occurred, but that’s no longer possible — most of the stories get relegated to the news feed, if I have any coverage of them at all. There are just too many of them.

With the increased Islamization has come increased persecution of those who criticize it, including many people he has worked with over the years.  "Many of them," he writes, "have now ceased their Counterjihad activities — when the choice is between losing your livelihood and giving up your Islamophobia, it’s not surprising that people decide to quit this line of work."

I used to think that making more people aware of what’s happening would help turn the tide. If a critical mass of understanding could only be reached, especially among elected representatives, the process of Islamization might be reversible. Back in 2007 and 2008 I said I thought we had a window of ten or fifteen years in which to begin the process of reversal. Unfortunately, that window has now closed. The demographics of Western Europe have passed the point of no return. The white natives are having fewer children, while the Muslims are having more, and all the while additional “asylum seekers” are pouring in. Tomorrow belongs to them.

He predicts that "Sweden, the UK, the Netherlands, and France will be the first to become Islamic republics, with Germany, Austria, Spain, and Italy following close behind. It’s too late to stop the process; it’s only a matter of time." He continues:

No one in a position of political power will take action against the inevitable. Anyone who is inclined to oppose Islamization finds out as soon as he rises high enough in the hierarchy that opposition is not permitted. The order comes down from above, and you either give up your opposition ... , or your career comes to an end. ... I can’t say exactly who the shadowy unelected globalists are who give the orders, but they’re out there giving them. Their gravitational influence is large enough to shift the orbits of our elected leaders.

As we approach 2050, the Islamization process will intensify to the point where civil strife will break out in Western Europe. If nuclear war can somehow be avoided, it may be possible for white enclaves to form where the worst of the Islamic excesses are kept at bay. However, based on the current demographics, the Caliphate will have control of the major cities. If the welfare jizya ceases to flow to the urban ghettos, then the Muslims living there will have to resort to razzias [hostile raids such as carried out by the Moors], which is their traditional way of dealing with privation. We can expect well-armed masses of them to descend on the suburbs and rural areas, where they can rape and pillage to their hearts’ content.

They will have the arms, and, sad to say, they will have more military-age men than the white natives will. By that time most of the remaining whites will be geezers. Thus we can expect that their enclaves will gradually shrink, while the culturally enriched sharia banlieues will gradually expand.

The Baron goes on to explain that this is but one tool of many being used by a shadowy elite to destroy the West all around the world. Read the whole thing.

Important Question: Can I Shoot A Smash & Grab Robber?

From Guns America: "Can I Shoot a Smash-and-Grab Robber?" And as with most legal advice, the answer is "it depends". Basically, as the article and accompanying video explains, the situation must fulfill the elements of self-defense with lethal force:

Kirk explains the legal considerations: “For any Force no matter what whether it involves a fist or a firearm…has to be 1. Necessary 2. It has to be reasonable both objectively and subjectively speaking, and 3. It has to be proportional.”

In most states, lethal force is permissible under specific circumstances, such as imminent threat of serious injury or death.

However, he stressed that “in almost all jurisdictions in the United States lethal force is not allowable to defend only property.”

Kirk then examined whether the scenario [in the video] justified lethal force, saying, “While we may think that this is a property crime…what we are witnessing right here is a violent felony. That’s right, it is the felony of robbery.”

The article continues quoting Kirk:

That’s right, it is the felony of robbery. Okay, we call them smash-and-grab robberies. We don’t call them smash-and-grab thefts or anything like that because this is a robbery. What is a robbery? Every state has its own way of defining it, but in general, a robbery is going to be defined as the action of taking property unlawfully from a person or place by force or threat of force. Okay, so if we are taking the property of another by using force or threatening to use force, that is a robbery. And here’s the deal: that is a felony in every state. And here’s the deal: it’s a violent felony. Okay, which means the victims of this robbery are actually having a violent felony committed upon them. Now if they just stay put and really don’t get involved, the likelihood of them being injured is under this hypothetical not particularly great. And I want you to remember that when we circle back on that. But this is much more than than a property crime. This is a serious. This is no different than if you walked up and you saw that some old lady had two hoodlums, one holding a crowbar over her head while the other one was ripping the purse off of her. Okay, they haven’t actually physically harmed her yet, thank God, they have not hit her with the crowbar, but is she being robbed? She most definitely is.

But he also cautions about getting involved when your own life is not at risk.

In any event, read the whole thing and watch the video.

Blue Collar Prepping: A Small OTC Pharmacy List

From Blue Collar Prepping: "Guest Post: a Small OTC Pharmacy List" by George Groot. Before starting his list, Groot begins:

Every disaster prep list usually includes the words “30 days’ (or more) worth of medication.” If you are on medication, this is really great advice, but there are also a bunch of things you can purchase without a prescription that will provide you with treatment options  from a headache to a laceration, and those are good to have on hand for when stores aren’t open. This list isn’t all encompassing, and it’s meant to be generic so that you can decide, “Yeah, I need that, but not that” and customize it to your situation.

He then goes on to list several consumable medications and supplements to have on hand such as pain medications, anti-histamines, vitamins, etc., while explaining a bit about each. He does the same for topical medical supplies such as sterilizing fluids (e.g., rubbing alcohol), antibiotic ointment, hydrocortisone cream, etc. And finally he discusses some "preventative" medicines for treating lice, insect repellant, sun screen, etc., as well as advice on storage and rotating your stocks.

Frankly, I would suggest keeping different types of some categories. For instance, ibuprofen (pain killer, anti-inflammatory), acetaminophen (pain killer, fever reducer), and aspirin are all inexpensive, can be purchased in large quantities, and act in slightly different ways and can be used for slightly different issues.

Anyway, useful information so be sure to check it out.

Evolution In Action: Rapper Shoots Himself In Head While Playing With Loaded Pistol

The New York Post reports that "Teen rapper accidentally kills himself on social media video after pointing gun at his head and pulling trigger." As Jon Low reminds us, the four rules of gun safety are:

Rule 1:  All guns are always loaded.

Rule 2:  Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.

Rule 3:  Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.

Rule 4:  Be sure of your target.

I think this rapper, 17-year old Rylo Huncho of Suffolk, Virginia, violated all four rules at once--and probably some federal and state gun laws to boot. The Post's article indicates that "footage circulating on social media showed Suffolk-based rapper Rylo Huncho singing into a camera while dancing with a pistol with a green laser sight." "The boy appeared to switch off the weapon’s safety and point it at his head, when a gunshot rang out and and he was thrown from view as the camera dropped."

Rylo Huncho was seen on video posted to his Instagram story showing off a handgun, waving the barrel while displaying its built-in green laser sight and flashlight.

He then took control of the grip, appeared to shut off the safety and pointed the gun to his head before saying 'f*** y'all n****s' and pulling the trigger.

He immediately left the view of the camera as the phone fell to the floor in the wake of the blast.

Peering Into The Future: Non-Propellant Drives For Spacecraft (Updated)

A couple articles from The Drive this past month on some unusual spacecraft drives.

The first article reports that "Dr. Charles Buhler, a NASA engineer and the co-founder of Exodus Propulsion Technologies, has revealed that his company’s propellantless propulsion drive, which appears to defy the known laws of physics, has produced enough thrust to counteract Earth’s gravity." The drive uses electrostatics, according to the article. Exodus Propulsion Technologies produced a vacuum chamber to test the drive in 2020, intended to eliminate any outside interference with the equipment and rule out other forces acting on the experimental drive. Dr. Buhler indicates that the company performed 146 tests in 2021, all of which seemed to produce measurable force.

Testing different configurations and materials, the company saw dramatic increases in thrust through 2022 and up to the latest test that produced a full 1 G of force.

“Essentially, what we’ve discovered is that systems that contain an asymmetry in either electrostatic pressure or some kind of electrostatic divergent field can give a system of a center of mass a non-zero force component,” Buhler explained. “So, what that basically means is that there’s some underlying physics that can essentially place force on an object should those two constraints be met.”

Their next step is to move to actual tests in space. This seems interesting. I hope that it proves to be true.

The second article, on using a warp drive, is mostly conjecture and mathematics at this point. Briefly, using the concept of warping space-time as used by the hypothesized "Alcubierre drive", the physicists behind this idea have figured that by eliminating faster-than-light travel from the equation, the same process could produce a warp field without resorting to exotic matter. The article explains:

According to their new research, the physicists propose integrating a stable shell of ordinary matter with the shift vector of a warp drive similar to the famous “Alcubierre drive” first proposed decades ago. This would allow a “warp bubble” to be achieved that will allow the movement of objects very rapidly through space within the bounds of light speed.

This is all based on computer modeling and not something that could be constructed in the foreseeable future, even if the theory was sound.

Update: Here is a video discussing the Exodus findings in the first article. The producer of the video throws in a bit at the beginning and end concerning UFOs, but about half of the video is about Exodus' findings including excerpts from an interview that Buhler gave:

Blacks Riot In Florida

The Daily Mail reports on a "Huge 400-man riot erupts after skate-park party is canceled at the last minute and organizers call on friends to meet there and rampage anyway." From the lede:

A 400-man riot broke out at a Florida skate park after the venue canceled a planned after party at the last minute.

The large brawl erupted Saturday night in the parking lot at Astro Skate in the Tampa Bay Metropolitan area after frustrated party organizers put out a call online encouraging people to 'riot' and 'confront law enforcement' at the skate park.

The rampage saw more than 400 people, both children and adults, fighting, stealing and causing damage to local businesses.

One group of rioters caused $500 worth of damage to a convenience store and another beat a juvenile before throwing him through a glass window at a nearby barber shop.

Twenty-three youths and six adults were arrested in the violent outbreak, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has confirmed.

Also:

Investigators say the fight broke out after Astro Skate canceled a planned after party because the event hosts failed to hire an off-duty deputy to monitor the event, as per company policy.

Although the skate park refunded their money, the party-goers were seemingly angry and took to social media asking people to meet at the business and riot.

When deputies arrived at the scene, approximately 400 to 500 people were fighting and causing disturbances in the Astro Skate parking lot and at nearby businesses.

Deputies issued multiple warnings informing the crowd that they trespassing and needed to leave, but the group carried on the rampage.

Smaller groups broke away from the large fight and targeted nearby businesses.

And this is over a trivial matter. But because politicians, business and community leaders, all coddled and encouraged this behavior in the wake George Floyd's overdose death, a growing segment of the black community believes this should be their default response to anything that irritates them.

Another future flash point will be the dispute over reparations for slavery, discrimination, or whatever excuse comes up. And the demands are only getting increasingly rapacious. For instances, another Daily Mail article reports that "Black Bostonians demand more than $15billion in reparations from the city as local white churches discuss offering $50million."  That article explains:

Head of the Commission Reverend Kevin Peterson told WCVB even though the group is asking for $15billion, it is 'not enough' as 'every life is incalculable.'

As well as the $15 billion requested from the City, the Commission is in talks with Boston's white churches about a possible $50 million payout.

In other words, the $50 million is on top of the $15 billion being demanded. How long before this issue is used as justification for riots?

And RFK Jr. is pandering for the black vote: "RFK Jr. vows to give black farmers $5 BILLION in reparations if he wins the White House and says funds are 'not money, that is entitlement' despite white counterparts labeling it racist." At issue was a $5 billion fund set up by the Federal government to pay off loans incurred by black farmers as a form of reparation. Some white farmers sued the government on the grounds that the program was racist by excluding other races. The result is that the fund was split with $2 billion earmarked for just black farmers and $3 billion earmarked to pay off debts of farmers generally that have suffered financial hardship. (Odd that the people opposed to paying off student loan debts are silent concerning similar programs for farmers or other businesses).

NY Post: Illegals Rushing To Cross Border In Case Biden Loses

The New York Post reports that "Migrants rushing to cross border now in case Biden loses in November: ‘We don’t want Trump’." This part from the article is telling:

Colombian brothers Ricardo, 20, and Sebastian, 18, spoke with The Post after crossing the Arizona border illegally last week.

They said they had been receiving assistance at the Yuma Regional Center for Border Health as they waited for a bus to the Phoenix airport, where they later caught a flight to New Jersey.

* * *

The brothers claimed asylum after they crossed the southern border and turned themselves in to Border Patrol agents in Yuma. They said they faced threats from criminals in Colombia, leading them to flee.

Border Patrol agents subsequently released them to the local nonprofit aid group and gave them court dates for their first asylum hearings scheduled for October.

Their mom, whom they spoke with over the phone from the nongovernmental organization, was awaiting their arrival in New Jersey.

The article goes out of its way to not name the NGO helping the illegals.

The interesting thing to me is that the illegals are claiming that they are coming now (and undoubtedly paying large sums of money to cartels to do so) in case Biden loses and Trump implements a mass deportation of illegals--risking the money they have spent--rather than wait until after the November election. It make me suspect that they might be coming now--before the election--for a different reason.

Color Me Surprised: 84% Of Measles Cases In Chicago Traced To Immigrants

From Breitbart: "Report: 84% of Chicago's Measles Cases Traced to Venezuelan Migrants." The article explains:

A report from the Centers for Disease Control has linked 84 percent of Chicago’s recent cases of measles back to the wave of illegal aliens from Venezuela.

The report found that 84 percent of the identified cases were found in illegal aliens from Venezuela who were unvaccinated and can be traced to a single migrant boy who arrived in Chicago with the communicable disease, according to the Daily Mail.

Fifty-seven cases were found in the same migrant shelter in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, the CDC added.

A highly contagious disease brought in by an illegal alien. Who would've thunk?

Some Extra Credit Reading

First up, Jon Low released a Defensive Pistolcraft newsletter last week, which you can find here. Something I found interesting:

From an email from Stephen P. Wenger --

A List Member Replies: On the issue of the rearmament of Israelis:

I was in Israel in December for Hanukkah and in the last few weeks over Passover [April 22-30].  I saw more carried pistols and long guns (M4s and Tavors) than ever before . . .  Long guns:  In social situations, for example in synagogue or in parks, pushing strollers and kids on swings, or shopping or just walking on the street, none of them were carried by people in uniform.  On trains, a high proportion of carriers were in uniform, on buses, mixed.  Religious leaders have been encouraging, all congregants to come to services armed.  I suspect the military has been telling soldiers who are not on duty not to leave their guns at home.  With handguns, it’s all open carry but I think that’s mainly because it’s almost summer and people don’t want to wear an extra layer of clothing to cover them.

Another bit I found especially interesting:

From an email from John Murphy --

A 3rd Party Intervention and a Negative Outcome*

An armed citizen witnessed a sustained string of violent acts and elected to intervene. Unfortunately his response was ineffective and it cost him his life when the car jacker, who had already committed a string of felonies, ran him over.

CAUTION: This is a very disturbing video:

"Good Samaritan killed while trying to help carjacking victim in Lumberton, North Carolina"
by WRAL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmRPmGXYE2U

Among the lessons we can take from this incident:

1) The penalty for ineffective intervention can be death. The armed citizen fired four shots at the perpetrator, who was later arrested and required only minimal medical care.

2) The criminal was absolutely committed to violence. The disparity in commitment can be absolutely lethal. All the way in, or all the way out.

Gabe Suarez's comments --

This one happened a couple of months into 2024. There have been a few online pieces written about it. I want to present my perspectives on it and then hear yours.

1). Based on the KWTL Flowchart, would you engage? To me it is a grey area. It depends. In the various news stories there is no mention of the suspect being armed, and I didn't see any in the video.

It isn't clear why Lecompte (the shooter/victim) was out of his city vehicle. Was a weapon pointed at him to compel him to exit? Or was he exiting to assist what looked like a traffic accident? Yes, physical force can be used to commit a robbery, but it appears the suspect merely took advantage of the open door of a running vehicle rather than force the driver to exit. Yes, I know all the seriousness of a carjacking but I am basing my comments on what was happening then and there and what Lacompte knew.

2). I hate to reiterate the obvious but Lacompte was 38 at the time. Physically he looks late fifties based on body composition. Based on images online, I suspect he was quite unfit. This this contribute to his demise? Possibly. Very simply, if one looks dangerous, one will likely be left alone.

Excluding extreme disparities in size, a fit strong man could physically remove another from his vehicle and subdue him. And finally an agile fitter person could easily evade an oncoming vehicle. The other person in the road did just that.

3). Hard to tell what sort of weapon Lacompte was using, but it looks small and based on the rate of fire, likely some sort of small revolver or pocket pistol. Few rounds were fired and as far as I can find online, the suspect was either not hit, or hit minimally at a distance of three feet through an open window. Lacompte was armed with what 90% of Americans carry and virtually no skill
in its deployment.

As we say, carry as powerful a weapon as you can under the circumstances, and when you are justified in being proactive, put a burst into their face. A burst is approximately five rounds in the time it took you to read this [sentence].

-- Gabe Suarez

There is a bunch more there, including a couple longer comments/excerpts concerning gripping the pistol and trigger pull/reset, so be sure to check out the whole thing.

Second is Greg Ellifritz's Weekend Knowledge Dump from this past Friday. For revolver aficionados, Greg's included links to articles on shooting small revolvers better, revolver reloading methods, and routine cleaning and lubrication of revolvers.

Greg also included a link to a video of a news report out of Detroit about an incident where two criminals (the usual suspects) tried to steal a firearm off of an on-duty police officer. It appears from both the video and the reporter's comments that the criminal was able to get the firearm out of the holster but the officer was able to wrestle the weapon away from the criminal. Greg indicates that he linked to it as an example of how lawless is life in the urban environment. I think it also illustrates why open carry is a very poor idea.

On a related note, Greg linked to an article from a Brazilian Ju-Jitsu blog asking the question of "why don't cops train independently"--i.e., why don't police seek training outside of their department for hand-to-hand skills. The author gives 7 reasons why he doesn't believe officers seek out such training--the last of which is ego--and Greg seems to agree, noting that he actually studied this issue as part of earning his graduate degree, and commenting:

I think taking martial arts training is likely to show them the reality of just how deficient their combatives skill set is. Officers don’t want to suffer the ego hit requiring them to admit that they can’t fight their way out of a wet paper bag.

Rather than taking the time to learn some skills, it’s easier to just pretend your skill set isn’t deficient in the first place.

Anyway, there is more there, so check it out.

Something You Won't See In The MSM: Black Man Arrested For Planning Slaughter Of Whites

From Shooting News Weekly: "Ex Marine Arrested For Planning Murder Spree in ‘Gun-Free’ Zones ‘In the White Community’." From the article:

The Marines kicked Joshua Cobb, 23, out of the Corps just days ago. Now the FBI has arrested him for a plot to commit a murder spree targeting white Americans.  Moreover, the US Attorney’s office claims Cobb planned to do it in “gun-free” venues where he knew he’d face little to no likelihood of facing a good guy with a gun.

The former Marine write that he wanted to create “mayhem” in the white community close to an “important holiday to their race.” It seems he was a particularly thoughtful lunatic. And while the mainstream media have reported the story, few have keyed in on Cobb’s intent to specifically target gun-free venues.

Here’s an example of Cobb’s writings, from the US Attorney’s press release:

I want to cause mayhem on the white community. The reason i specifically want to target white people is because as a black male, they will NEVER understand my struggles. Same way I will never understand their struggles, but I don’t care to. I want to erase them. All of them really, but in this case as many as I possibly can. As of today I have officially began planning my attack. It is going to take place in 2023 in the state of New Jersey, I have not chosen a exact date but I am going to be sure it is close to an important holiday to their race. I have a location in mind already which I have frequented for the past year and I am certain nobody there is armed to be able to stop me from spraying them to the ground. I have already acquired 2 of the 4 firearms I plan to use for my attack, and I also know my entry and exit points already after the mayhem.

It's not clear from the article why he was only arrested this year.
