It is no big mystery why most of the earliest belief systems, myths and religions from all around the world were essentially Sun worship. The Sun is at the center of it all. It powers life on Earth, the weather, the water cycle, the seasons, plant growth...everything. If the Sun goes out...the Earth and all its inhabitants and creatures die. Later religions still incorporate Sun worship...albeit the Sun has now been transformed into The Son...whose birthdate corresponds to the Winter Solstice...and whose resurrection corresponds to the Spring Equinox when the buds, flowers and vegetation bloom and animal babies start to emerge. I wonder how many people ponder the relationship between modern religions, the seasons and the Sun!
James George Frazer published a book, The Golden Bough, in the early 20th Century that was a comparative study of religions, ancient and modern, that goes into detail about how these pagan beliefs of death and renewal (resurrection) of winter and spring were universal and have survived and been carried forward in many Christian countries. An interesting read.
Sweet. I wonder if it causes global warming?
Only when its heat gets trapped by the evil CO2 humans produce. Otherwise, it is incapable of any affect on climate. Clouds, albedo, ocean currents, etc., likewise don't have any impact on the climate. Also, the Earth didn't warm for natural reasons after the end of the Little Ice Age--it was all due to human activity. And anyone who claims that the Amazon Rainforest is a net producer of CO2 and methane is a liar whose mother wears Army boots.
