Why Ares Armor Was Raided

The gun boards were alight about the ATF's raid of Ares Armor, a manufacturer of so-called "80% lower receivers" (they aren't actually a receiver at the point Ares Armor, or other similar companies sell them). According to The Truth About Firearms, a different manufacturer--LCG AR Part and Custom Accessories--had been selling 80% lowers, then milling them out for customers with only minimal work (drilling a handful of holes) being performed by the customer. In other words, they were accepting a fee to complete the manufacturing process to a 100% finished receiver. To add insult to injury, the company was using a convicted felon to perform the milling. TTAG indicates that the ATF may have information of similar activities at Ares Armor.
