Shooting Left And Low? How "The Three Amigos" Ruin Your Accuracy

This video offers advice to help those shooting low and left with a handgun, noting that the most likely problem is pulling the handgun slightly with the lower three fingers ("the three amigos") as those fingers tighten when firing the weapon. The host of this video focuses on correcting this by isolating the trigger finger from the other three fingers and suggests a course of dry fire practice and live practice.

  1. Another solution is to tighten your damn grip before pulling the trigger. If the amigos aren't loose (ish) then the booger hook is automatically isolated. And it will help with recoil control. Sheesh.

    1. On this same topic, I would like to see some discussion of how straight backstraps/recoil spring housings contribute. As I discussed in a June 2024 post (https://practicaleschatology.blogspot.com/2024/06/new-defensive-pistolcraft-newsletter.html) I was shooting low-left with my Glock 43X because--even with my normal grip that worked fine on my other handguns--there was still enough of a gap between the palm and the back of the pistol grip that the slight tightening of the fingers when shooting would throw it off. I have corrected that issue by tightening my grip, but I feel like I have to use an excessively tight grip because of the poor ergonomics.

    2. Last time I switched out handguns I went to a range with a rent once, swap out handguns as much as you wanted for the period. Tried a bunch of different brands/models (yes, decent ones) and then purchased the one that fit/shot the best for me. Yes you can pay a gunsmith more money than the gun cost to customize the grip but I didn't want or need to go there. And got rid of my Glocks for fit failure.

    3. I've put a rubber grip sleeve on it so I'll see how well that works.
